SELF-RESPECT

Self- respect can be defined as an individual’s posistive or negative attitude towards oneself. A family should accept their child as they are and help the child’s personality positively. People who have self-respect want to be happy, healthy, productive and successful and are willing to overcome a difficulty.

Show unconditional love
Use ‘‘I’’ language
Explain clearly the expected behaviour
Take feelings and thoughts into consideration
Accept the child’s existence
Allow the child to do some things for themselves
Respect private possessions
Accept the child’s abilities
Respect their choices
Don’t give conflicting messages
Make them feel special
