Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden
Çevre College 6th grade students went on a trip to Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden on April 3th, 10th and 14th of 2017. During their visit students learned about plants that grow in the garden. They learned the plants’ scientific names, their life cycle and various uses in the medical industry.
Our students learned about a wide range of plant species from all over the world, on display at the botanical garden. They also learned all about how different plants came to Turkey from other countries, and in which parts of Turkey these plants now grow.
The students were most interested in Eucalyptus tree, which came to Turkey from Australia in the 1900s. It was brought to Turkey to help dry up some of Turkey’s wet swamp lands.
Students were fascinated by all of this information an deven played the ‘Action Game’ while in the garden. They returned to school with huge smiles and lots of new knowledge of botanical history.
