Cevre College 17th Science and Technology Week Events and Science Fair
Cevre College’s “17th Science Fair and Science and Technology Week” took place between 8-14th March 2018 and involved 750 students from 4th to 8th grade.
In “Science and Technology Week”, our greatest goal was to teach our students the processes of scientific thinking, ways to make qualitative and quantitative observations through experiments and to increase their ability to express themselves. Our aim was to develop critical thinking skills as well as the ability to search for solutions using scientific processes.
For the purpose of achieving our goals within the “Science and Technology Week”, our students organized project presentations, experiment workshops, competitions and interviews. The week’s programme was organized according to class levels as follows:
Day 1 08.03.2018 Science Fair Project Exhibition 5th-6th grades
Day 2 09.03.2018 8th grades Interview with Prof. Dr. Meltem Erinçmen Kanoğlu 8th grades
Day 3 12.03.2018 CRODA Chemistry Experiment Work 4th grades
Day 4 13.03.2018 7th grades Science Competition 7th grades
Day 5 14.03.2018 Interview and Award Ceremony with our honorary guest 6th-7th grades
Prof. Dr. Mustafa Oral Öncül and our student Mert Akyürekli
On the first day, Our Science Fair Project Exhibition took place in the Conference Hall Foyer and included the presentation of 53 projects prepared by our 5th-6th grades students. The creativity and perspective of our students' work, the talents of sharing their experiences with the guests who visited us, and with the Cevre faculty and student body were fascinating. The list of the students who achieved recognition with their projects is as follows:

On the 2nd day, our 8th grade students interviewed Prof.Dr. Meltem Erinçmen Kanoğlu on the topic related to the existence of soil.
We believe that this interview will be very effective to our students who had previously read the book of our honorary guest.
On the 3rd day, our 4th grade students met the CRODA Chemical Company trainers. In our chemistry lab, they shared their experience by implementing the steps of the scientific process, experimenting, taking measurements, and discussing the results.
On the 4th day, in the conference hall, a science competition was held among our 7th grade students. A total of six teams of three students from each class competed against each other proving their high level of knowledge and skills. All classes have also competed in teamwork, design and creativity as well as responding to questions asked.
On the 5th day, our 5th, 6th and 7th grade students who also participated in the project exhibition, met our honorary guest Prof. Dr. Mustafa Oral Öncü and our student Mert Akyürekli.
Our guest, Mustafa Oral Öncül, emphasized that through this event our school enlightened the students about Science and exploration. Moreover, he said that Mert Akyürekli had been one of the best examples of people who managed to widen his horizons. In his speech, Mert Akyürekli mentioned his first Science Fair Project when he was a 6th grade student in our middle school and he hadn't ever dreamed of being so successful.
He shared his feelings of pride and happiness that he experienced while presenting his school and country in the contest. We believe that Mert Akyürekli is a great inspiration for our students triggering their interest to explore more in Science. We congratulate him once again on his great success.
Mustafa Oral Öncül, Vice dean, also congratulated Mert Akyürekli on his remarkable achievement. He stated that he would always support our goals and projects.
We were also pleased to see the eagerness and excitement in students’ eyes participating in the event.
The Science and Technology Week events ended with the Award Ceremony.
We would like to congratulate our students for their great performance in all activities. Additionally, we would like to thank our Science Department teachers for supporting the students and being so passionate about organizing this wonderful event.
