Ant Colonies

During the month of April, the topic of Ant Colonies was covered in GEMS program.

In the school entrance, pre reception classes followed the Journey of the ant world visually. Our students found this interesting topic enjoyable and increased their curiousity. They travelled in this interesting world of ants through their resource books and internet. They gathered information about the body structure, forces, underground colonies, tunnels, enemy ants and defenses of ants and the life process of male and female ants.

We put food out in our school garden to study them. We had the opportunity to observe them every day. We designed ants and their different types, colours and size. We grouped them symmetrically and played a “Leaf and Ant game”. Supported by maths and science activities we learned about the wonderful shapes of the life od ants.
