Çevre High School Students Explore History and Culture in İznik and Bursa!

On April 19–20, 2025, our 10th grade students embarked on a cultural journey through İznik and Bursa, following in the footsteps of history. Over two enriching days, they experienced the joy of learning by connecting with the past and created lasting memories.

The trip began with a visit to İznik, a city steeped in the heritage of Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman civilizations. Students explored significant historical sites such as the Istanbul Gate, Ayasofya (Orhan) Mosque, İznik Archaeological Museum, Lefke Gate, Yeşil Mosque, and the Nilüfer Hatun Soup Kitchen. A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to engage with İznik’s world-renowned tile art—students painted their own tiles as souvenirs of this unique cultural experience.

The journey continued to Cumalıkızık, a 700-year-old village that showcases the finest examples of Ottoman civil architecture. With its narrow cobblestone streets and well-preserved historical houses, the village offered a feeling of traveling back in time.

On the second day, the group explored the heart of Bursa, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Panorama 1326 Conquest Museum, the tombs of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi in Tophane Park, the Grand Mosque (Ulu Camii), Green Tomb (Yeşil Türbe), İpek Han, and the historic Koza Han. Students also relaxed under the shade of a 600-year-old plane tree while tasting traditional flavors of Bursa.

At the Karagöz-Hacivat Museum, students learned about Turkey’s traditional shadow plays, discovering a fun and artistic side of our cultural heritage.

Thanks to this unforgettable cultural tour, our students had the opportunity to explore UNESCO-recognized historical sites and gain a deeper appreciation for our cultural legacy.
